As part of July 4 Utah Polite Society event, we plan to have two carbine
exercises. This is in addition to the four pistol exercises we usually
have.
If you plan to shoot the carbine exercises, bring your carbine and 60 rounds
of carbine ammunition. Any carbine or rifle you may have occasion to use
for personal defense is appropriate. This includes tactical carbines, .22s,
bolt-action hunting rifles, lever guns or other rifles/carbines that may be
employed for personal defense. Slings are strongly recommended but not
required.
If you have a support system for your carbine (magazine pouch, dump pouch,
etc.) bring it and test it out during the carbine exercises. If you don't
have a support system, we'll have a few pieces of loaner equipment
available.
We have use of both the 50 and 25-yard range bays that day, so we'll be
running the rifle exercises concurrent with the pistol exercises. This
should let us finish up a little earlier in the day.
The two exercises we have planned will require about 60 rounds of
ammunition. If you plan to shoot additional exercises, bring additional
ammo.
Take a look at the attached courses of fire for details about the carbine
exercises.
If time permits, we'll open the range for additional informal carbine
exercises after the two exercises we have planned are completed.
The first handgun exercise is a skills drill that focuses on shooting and
performing reloads while moving. All actions are taken while moving over a
predefined course. Movement will be continuous, and all actions are to be
performed while on the move.
The second handgun exercise is a skills drill that focuses on shooting from
the supine position. Targets will be engaged forward of the shooter, to the
left, to the right and behind the shooter. Reloads will be performed during
the course of fire as needed while in the supine position.
The third handgun exercise is a simulated defensive encounter that recreates
a home invasion where you have to defend from the supine position.
The fourth handgun exercise is a simulated defensive encounter that takes
place at a campsite providing minimal cover (a camp cooler). A carbine may
be incorporated in this simulation, at the participant's option.
Please bring the handgun, holster, magazine carriers and any other equipment
you use for concealed carry as well as 100 rounds of handgun ammunition.
For range safety reasons we ask that any holsters used in our events allow
drawing your handgun without muzzle sweeping yourself or bystanders. This
typically precludes use of shoulder holsters and many cross-draw holsters.
Safety Reminder: All guns must remain cased or holstered until the safety
briefing has been given. If you plan to bring a carbine, make sure it's in
a case and remains in the case while in the parking lot and at the range
until after the safety briefing has been given.
This event will be held at the Hendricksen Range in Parleys Canyon east of
